Intellectual Property, Music Rights, Authors and Broadcasters
As part of its activities related to the complex issues of the intellectual property, the Kosovo Media Institute organized a conference on copyright issues (‘Intellectual Property, Music Rights, Authors and Broadcasters’). The event took place on September 13th at EU Information and Cultural Centre in Pristina.
Copyright conference gathered representatives of the broadcast sector (including RTK) and, for the first time, their counterpart from the Association of Music Authors of Kosovo (APIK).
Panelists were Ms. Ardita Zejnullahu (Association of Independent Electronic Media), Mr. Skender Boshtrakaj (Ministry of Culture), Mr. Florent Boshnjaku (Association of Music Authors), Mr. Feim Kurhasani (Radio Dukagjini), Mr. Isak Vorgucic (Radio KIM Caglavica/KOSMA network), Ms. Minire Fetahu (RTK), Mr. Driton Qeriqi (IREX, legal media advisor), Mr. Nehat Islami (Press Council), Mr. Kelmend Hapciu (Kosovo Media Institute) and Mr. Davor Glavas (Media Advocacy Expert, EU Support to the Kosovo Media Institute – phase II).
Topics discussed were:
- Current global trends in protection of the intellectual property and music rights;
- Current Kosovo legal framework on the issue;
- Existing models of royalties collection;
- Identifying the best royalties collection model for Kosovo.
All parties have agreed that the next step should include an active participation of the Independent Media Commission. KMI has already contacted the IMC, in order to get as wider representation of the broadcast sector in the forthcoming debate on the royalties collection model as possible.
